Fashion

 

Runway Fashion Show: College for Creative Studies 

The Runway Fashion course was taught at the College for Creative Studies during their summer youth program. The classes were split into two age groups, where both classes designed and constructed their own fashion designs. Both classes came together for a fashion show during the summer student exhibition.

Art House

 

Summer Activities |Penrose Art House

Penrose Art House was a project started by Growtown for children and teenagers in a Detroit neighborhood. During the summer months students took gardening and art classes. The work produced was displayed in the garden and surrounding property. Students created flags, signs, cityscape sculptures, paintings, seasonal decorations, wind chimes, etc. 

Intersection

 

Intersection |Burton Elementary

Intersection was a project at Burton Elementary school during Black History Month. The project given to the students was to design and build inspiring sculptures to be fabrication for a neighborhood pocket park in Detroit. Students also drew and painted portraits of historical African-American figures, while including their own personal writings about their future. 

Fashion

 

Fashion + Costume Design |College for Creative Studies 

Students learned the basic design process of creating a garment. Students focused on street wear and costume designs. Along with drawings and sketches, students created a bag out of their inspiration sheets. 

Op Art

 

Op Art + Found Object |Emerson Middle School

This class was offered to Emerson Middle School as an after school program. Students learned about the history, terminology and techniques of Op Art. Lessons in color theory were the foundation of the paintings the students created. Students also spent class time creating a treasure box from found objects. 

Fashion

 

Fashion Consctruction |Immanuel Church

This class was a product of the efforts of the congregation of Immanel Church in Detroit's eastside. Students learned to sketch their designs and sew their garments. The students modeled their own designs in a fashion show held at Nu2U Resale Shop. 

Wearable

 

Wearable Art |University Prep

Students explored the world of wearable art. The goal was to create functional objects using traditional art techinques. Students created masks, wallets and purses from various materials. 

Fashion

 

Fashion Week |College for Creative Studies

This class was held during New York's Fashion Week. Students explored the realm of fashion and design. Students created magazine covers using their own drawings and cut outs. The class was then split into groups to design and construct a couture dress made of tissue paper and various materials.
